As you may know access to broadband and superfast broadband is an issue which affects parts of my constituency and I thought you would be interested in a Government consultation on the broadband Universal Service Obligation (USO) and how it is being implemented.
Under the current programmes over nine in ten homes in the constituency will have access to superfast broadband. However there is clearly more work to do.
In order to deliver a broadband USO the Government is consulting on new powers which would be given to the Secretary of State. These powers would enable him to introduce the USO and to require Ofcom to review the USO to ensure that it will continue to reflect connectivity needs, including whether the minimum speed needs to be updated.
